"Every person who has been diagnosed with diabetes should be evaluated by a podiatrist and provided with a thorough education on diabetic foot care." Dr. Gary Kugler

Diabetes is one of the leading causes of lower limb amputations. It is also associated with slow wound healing, poor circulation and neuropathy (deadening of the nerves) in the feet. This is why preventative care is so important in those with diabetes.

Dr. Gary Kugler is a member of the American Diabetes Association Professional Division. He has spoken extensively to patient diabetic education groups on diabetic foot care and prevention. Dr. Kugler stresses the importance of daily self-foot exams, proper footwear, and regular visits to a qualified podiatrist. He also believes in working closely with your medical doctor to provide comprehensive care. Dr. Kugler participates with the Medicare Therapeutic Shoe Program, which provides coverage of shoes and customized inserts for those with diabetes who may be at risk for serious foot-related problems.
